Presa El Cuchillo - China, N.L. Day Two

living.boondockingmexico@yahoo.com

What a great way to start the day. After we pulled out of Monterrey we headed down to Allende. I opened up the 40ft Hornet, plugged in the electric and slides came out. A small concern but one that I think can be fixed easily is some dampness at the bottom corners of the slideout in the living room. It is an obvious need for seal replacement. The central air came on right away and the place cooled down. Closed up and went down the road to Montemorelos. Passing right through we decided to stop here in General Teran to meet up with an old friend and teacher Juan Jose.

This house in the main plaza is under construction. I thought it was going to be a new palacio presidencial. No further comments if you know what I mean. From there the rain continued as it had all day. Excellent roads though, and I enjoyed the drive.

The goal was to spend the first night at the presa in China, N.L. We made it around 4 p.m. and way past my nap time. As we arrived to the entrance, the attendant opened the gate and said we could park wherever we wanted. (This place reminds me a bit of Seminole Canyon State Park just West of Lake Amistad, in fact, the presa looks a lot like Amistad. He recommended we go to the camping area where the palapas are but I told him with all the rain I wanted to remain on a harder surface. So we are parked near the “faro” lighthouse next to the bathroom. The attendant said to hook right up to any outlet we could find.

Here at El Cuchillo Lake in China, N.L. there is world-class fishing, camping including palapas with a small pad on the side, light and outlet in the palapa. There are bathrooms in many areas, clean and new but no showers. This is a great stop for a first night after crossing the border..

These guys were great on the road. Normally, the fat cat howls and screams for the first 15 minutes. This time with his new companion, they slept all day in the car. Missy is really growing.

So today, Tuesday we are here in the town of China and I am downloaded this report. We may stay another day and do some tourist stuff here in China and then off for the Northern part of the state, General Bravo, Doctor Coss, Los Aldamas and Herrera. Next stay might be in Los Aldama (another reservoir).
